There are 3 sets that are practically identical, and differ only in the kind of camera: this a single (hidden camera), the outdoor starter kit, and the indoor starter kid. for extra extensive reviews, look at those other kits as properly.
As for my opinion, this set does what it says it does in a fairly seamless fashion: you install the software program, plug the camera into the wall, plug a USB adapter into the wall and your laptop, make some minor configuration modifications and you are all set. I have no doubt we could have gotten a much better method less costly but not one particular as seamlessly integrated.
We looked at various different systems and bought this one rather simply because:
- most spy cams broadcast for Television...you then require a Television/VCR to record, or a separately purchased adapter to make it work with your personal computer, and we weren't technically confident adequate to want to decide to purchase completely different pieces and figure out how to get them operating together
- some spy cams are self-recording (they contain memory internally) but these tend to be pricey AND they limit how substantially you can record they will fill up if you do not clear them out consistently, and for our purposes that wasn't practical
- most "wireless" spy cams function on a WiFi wireless network, which is wonderful if you have 1, but we wanted this for use in a spot we did not have wifi this one functions by transmitting more than your household or office electrical technique.
- the expense of the method includes a webpage you can set up to view your camera remotely (while if you have a firewall you will only be able to watch 3 minute pieces if the technique can connect directly, which could possibly call for configuring your router which some individuals will locate daunting, you can watch consistently).
So, that mentioned, right here are some cons:
- only functions on PCs, not macs
- 95% of the configuration is a piece of cake, but some aspects are confusing, like how to schedule alerts, and setting up for emailing alerts
- the program has several capabilities that are in the system but you can't click on them -- they are there as ads for a "platinum" version of the computer software that expenses $80 a year. It's annoying to have a screen full of buttons you are not able to click, and to have advertising be such a prevalent portion of the interface
- this one particular is sort of petty, but it would be nice of the clock that hides the camera had an alarm, considering the fact that we had to take away a "true" clock in place of this 1
- the camera is fine for security, but the image is sort of strange - it appears to be infrared? Which means the colors are bizarre. Reds turn yellow, greens and blues turn white. Which is possibly fine for safety purposes, but do not be expecting to get a high quality video out of it
I've had this technique for about 2.5 years. General, I'd have to say its hit and miss. Somedays it works, some days it does not. Meaning the cams go offline a lot and you have to reset the cams, reboot your computer, or restart the command center. This happens about once a week at least. And of course, this appears to take place when you actually require it (traveling, and so on).
I've also had to replace two cameras just after a year. WARRANTY is only fine for a year on these and they are expense! I have five cams in total. The customer service staff is quite useful but they only have a handful of tricks up their sleeves (reboot, restart, unplug). So few, I know them by heart. My newest camera hasn't worked right due to the fact I bought it right here three weeks ago and now I'm thinking about junking the entire set up. That stinks given that I've invested so significantly time and cash.
Word of assistance--just don't feel it will be upkeep free. It's a lot of work to maintain it operating, and you will in some cases have to reside with not each and every cam working appropriately (in particular the spy cams--they give me the most trouble).
