I bought the 2 camera method and this camera is Super! Yes you have to run a wire to power it (Duh!). But the signal is sent through 2.4ghz. RF (the wireless component). You can mount the little DVR anyplace that you can get reception. I have mine down in the Den next to my recliner, but, you can move it readily if you will need to monitor from, say, the kitchen. The two way "intercom" is nice to have!
If you need power outage protection, you will need to have to install a ups power outlet for each camera (use one for a pc and hook the camera provide into the outlet from the ups)
I set up the system and installed two cameras in an afternoon without having any tension. It did take a small organizing, but, it was really straightforward.
It is a lot less costly than the multi thousand dollar systems. And the photographs (even immediately after dark) are spectacular!
I have this up and running for one month and it is awesome...the picture quality is really good, sound good quality very good, and night vision is excellent, I would acquire this again..A+
